Presented by the visiting professorship "c/o now" (architektur:urban) as part of the joint event series of the studios of the department "die architektur".
The Viennese/Berlin-based photographer and architect Zara Pfeifer has made a name for herself in Europe and the USA in recent years with her photographic works, which have been featured in numerous exhibitions, publications and magazines. Her project „Du, meine konkrete Utopie“ (2017), in which she explored the various material and immaterial scales of Vienna's Alterlaa housing complex in a long-term photographic study, attracted particular interest. In her lecture, however, Zara Pfeifer will also report, among other things, on her ongoing project "Good Street" (2018-), in which she accompanies "Truck Drivers" on their journeys through Europe, depicting not only this "large space" but also the small, mobile and private spaces of permanently nomadic people.

The past semesters were dominated by the pandemic, which had a lasting effect on the course of studies and thus also on the culture of conversation in our department "The Architecture". Especially the students of the first semesters do not know any "regular operation" in this sense. However, the constant exchange among students and teachers in the department is not only a fundamental part of the teaching of architecture on the one hand and the examination of architecture itself on the other, but also an expression of the role that our discipline can play in larger contexts.
Against this backdrop, those responsible for the studios have resolved to intensify the exchange of content between students and teachers in the studios in the coming semester, in order to make a contribution to strengthening the culture of discussion in the department. The fact that the students succeeded in maintaining this culture of conversation anyway under the adverse circumstances of the pandemic - and especially in involving the students of the first semesters in it - has of course not been overlooked.
In addition, with the discussion format "Talk Talk" there is now another initiative to offer a platform for ongoing discussions on various topics outside the studio framework. The format is intended to provide a space that brings ALL of us at the department together in conversation about topics that affect or interest us both indirectly and directly.
Wednesday, 09.03. from 18:30 we want to try this with an "edition zero" for the first time. Antonia Forster (RAUMkultur), Peter Haimerl (Zoomtown), c/o now (Urban) and Nathalie Thompson (RAUMkultur) will kick things off and talk about manifestos and programs in architecture. Together we will try to talk about what we mean by a manifesto or a program, what role they play in architecture historically and today, and how they might help us position ourselves as architects.
From the moment of impact, the roundtable will continue to open up and offer the possibility to enter the discussion - an experiment to which you are ALL cordially invited and to which we are very much looking forward!
